Customer Service with a Twist – The Power of a Chocolate Chip Cookie

National cookie day - how to use cookies for customer service success

Break out the gingersnaps, snickerdoodles and chocolate chips because today is National Cookie Day! To celebrate, I thought I’d share a little secret with you – chocolate chip cookies are the foundation of my company’s customer service success.

Yes, that’s right – chocolate chip cookies.

When Endicia was first starting out, I pulled out my mother’s famous chocolate chip cookie recipe, and whipped up a batch of homemade cookies to serve to new clients and our partner, the USPS.

Today, we continue the tradition by hosting company-wide baking parties.

While baking cookies may not seem like much, this simple act has helped solidify relationships and set Endicia apart. There’s something very real about taking the time to do a little something extra for your customers. It shows them that you value them – as a person – and not just for their pocketbooks.

So give your customers the chance to get to know who you are and the people behind your ecommerce business – bake them a batch of delicious cookies. I know that’s what I’ll be doing today.

Do you have any quirky or unusual ways of winning over your customers’ hearts? We’d love to hear them. Please share your top customer service tips in the comments down below – and don’t forget to indulge in a cookie or two today (or maybe even make your own)!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Note: Not Harry-Certified (that’s a secret!), but still delicious

Yields 2 dozen

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cream together the butter and sugars in a mixing bowl, mixing until pale yellow and light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Mix in the eggs one at a time, and then the vanilla until combined.

Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a separate mixing bowl. Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Stir in the chocolate chips. Portion 2 tablespoons of dough for each cookie and roll together to form a ball, spacing the dough balls 2 inches apart on the baking sheet.

Bake until the edges just start to brown, 12 to 14 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
