Wondering where the heck 2017 has gone? Yes, the year feels like it’s flying by, and yes, it’s already August, but you know what? Summer fun is far from over, as is the opportunity for your e-commerce business to capitalize on the season.
Seasonal marketing is always a great idea for e-commerce companies since it is something that is relatively easy to play into, and summer comes with plentiful opportunities for e-commerce companies of all sizes to attract new and potential customers. Here are just six types of people you can target when developing summertime marketing campaigns:
1. Party People!
It does not matter where you live. The summer is the time to get outdoors and have fun.
With a seemingly endless supply of holidays, prime weather for cookouts, and other fun summertime activities like family reunions and Labor Day block parties, this is the time to bring the party to your consumers. With Independence Day alone netting the economy $3.42 billion, there is a tremendous opportunity for e-commerce companies to get on the good side of summer revelers and make a ton of money.
2. Sunbathers
Beaches and pools are a prime destinations during hot summer months. However, this does not mean you need to sell sunscreen to make money off of sunbathers. Think about what sunbathers need:
- Skincare products (of course)
- Bathing suits, beach apparel, towels, sunglasses, etc.
- Snacks that travel well
- Tunes or books
- Safety equipment (for kids)
- Toys or sports equipment
- And more!
3. Travelers
For those that don’t want to sit around baking in the sun on a beach or poolside all summer long, travel is always a great option. Campers, road trippers, and jet-setters alike are packing up and hitting the road. Even if your business cannot cater to the stationary summer revelers, you can likely find a way reach the mobile ones.
4. Brides and Grooms
Did you know that the most popular months to get married are September and October? While those months are at the tail end of summer and creeping into fall, that does not mean you will not be able to reach wedding planners, brides, grooms, and others connected to it (like the wedding party and guests) in the months leading up to the big event.
In 2016, couples spent, on average, $35,329 on their weddings. There is ample opportunity for e-commerce businesses to hook some of this business. This is particularly true for those with mobile-optimized sites or apps, as 89 percent of couples surveyed by The Knot in 2015 said they used their smartphone to plan their wedding on the go.
5. College-Bound Students and Their Parents
While most people spend their summers grilling, sunbathing, and traveling, you can bet that college-bound students and their parents have weightier matters on their minds while they do it. Launching back-to-college marketing campaigns would be a great way to tap into this audience and help relieve some of that pressure, so they are not waiting until all the partying’s done to get ramped up for the school year.
6. Snow Bunnies
This might seem like a silly suggestion, but think about what a great time the summer is to host a semi-annual sale for all things winter-related. Think of it as a Christmas-in-July type of sale or event. Even if your e-commerce company cannot find a way to accommodate fans of summer, you can still take advantage of this time of year by tapping into an audience you know is dying to pull out their snowboards and winter clothes and have fun in the snow.
Even as the days of summer wind down, there is still plenty of fun to be had by all, which means it is not too late to launch another marketing campaign for your summer-loving consumers.
